Our 51st issue will be about some tips and tricks to find jobs in tech as freshers. Also covers a few examples of right and wrong methods for finding a job.
Things to Do✅
These are a few tips to follow when you’re looking for a job as a fresher:
Getting ready for the job
Polish your skills before applying, revise everything you know, and make a list of job roles in 3 categories. One for your interests, one for your backup, and one for (you may explore) if you can't get a chance in 1st two categories.
Most college folks only know about very few developer job roles like Software Developer, Front end Developer, Full Stack Developer, Android Developer, etc. But there are tones of roles you can look for that may suit your skills (SRE, Platform Engineer, DevOps, DevRel, Cloud Engineer, QA Engineer, and many more)
Keep your research game on, try to find job roles where your skills can be utilized, and keep improving your skills.
Keep 3 resume always ready for jobs in different categories. (as mentioned above). Don’t use resume templates shared by influencers or from graphic design apps. Head over to Overleaf and create one for yourself. ( 1, 2, 3 can be used)
Time to apply
Don’t restrict yourself to only a few top companies, keep looking for good job roles at startups or smaller companies too. Always use official career page links to apply and do reach out for referrals before applying, it helps you to increase your chance of getting selected for 1st round of tests/interviews. (must do)
Sometimes companies don’t mention experience requirements so try to find records of companies and contact individuals working for the company via LinkedIn.
Do check your resume score according to job role from here before applying.
Things to Avoid❌
Don’t just use LinkedIn or any one specific platform for job search, use multiples.
As freshers, be open to any job type but make sure to research company culture beforehand.
Don’t accept any bonds greater than 6 months, if the monetary penalty is involved. (happening in on-campus drives)
Stay aware of scams, and don’t pay money to any third party HRs asking to buy a course or pay money for the job. (no matter how convincing they look)
Don’t interact with job posts that mention to comment “interested” they are just fetching engagements without giving any value. (mainly on LinkedIn)
More tips and resources related to job hunt will be shared in upcoming issues of TSC newsletter. Stay tuned!
